Crimson Moon FAQ
Quick, sourced answers to the questions we see most often about Crimson Moon ahead of its September 1, 2026 launch — every answer here links back to a fuller page if you want the full detail behind it.
Who is making Crimson Moon?
ProbablyMonsters, an independent Seattle-area studio founded in 2016 by Harold Ryan, the former President and CEO of Bungie. ProbablyMonsters is both developer and publisher, and it runs a centralized model that funds and staffs several internal teams, one of which previously grew into Firewalk Studios before Sony acquired it. Crimson Moon is one of the games built under that structure.
Is Crimson Moon multiplayer or co-op?
It supports both. The solo campaign is built as a complete, standalone way to play, and an optional two-player online mode adds mid-battle revival and inter-player synergies on top of the same mission structure. There is no larger-than-two-player mode confirmed, and PS5 players need PS Plus for the online portion. Full detail is on the Missions, Difficulty & Co-Op page.
What platforms is Crimson Moon on?
Confirmed first-party for PC via Steam (Windows only, no Mac or Linux) and PlayStation 5. Independent press coverage, syndicated across outlets including RPGamer and Gematsu, additionally reports Xbox Series X|S and Epic Games Store versions launching the same day, though neither has a first-party storefront listing confirming it yet. See the Release & Platforms page for the full breakdown.
When does Crimson Moon come out, and what does it cost?
September 1, 2026, at 5:00 PM UTC according to the PlayStation Store's own listing. The Standard Edition is $19.99 USD; a $29.99 USD Deluxe Edition adds the Ceremonial Armor Set, the Axe of the Gods weapon cosmetic, and access to a future expansion. There is no early-access window or staggered platform rollout confirmed.
What's the difference between the Standard and Deluxe Edition?
The $19.99 Standard Edition is the base game. The $29.99 Deluxe Edition includes everything in Standard plus three extras: a Ceremonial Armor Set, an Axe of the Gods weapon cosmetic, and access to a future expansion once it releases. Neither edition changes the core mission structure or co-op rules — both play the same game.
What kind of game is Crimson Moon?
A third-person, souls-like action RPG. Steam classifies it under Action, Adventure and RPG, tagged Souls-like, Roguelike, Hack and Slash and Dark Fantasy. Combat runs on a dodge/roll/parry/counter loop, layered with an evolving supernatural power called the Celestial Transformation, inside a Gothic High Renaissance setting the developer itself describes as blood-soaked and visceral.
Who do you play as, and what are you fighting?
You play a Nephilim — a human-angel hybrid in the Order of the Crimson Moon — reclaiming the fallen city of Gildenarch district by district. The enemy is described as an "Infernal Legion" made up of demons, the undead, vampires and a corrupting force called Hellgrowth, building toward boss fights the game calls "Dead Gods." No individual boss or enemy name has been revealed publicly. Full context is on the Story & Setting page.
What is The Church?
The Church, also named "Sanctus Clypeus" in an official trailer, is Crimson Moon's sanctuary hub between missions, where you handle upgrades, NPC interactions and War Table planning. It is the fixed home base for both solo and co-op runs, and it is also where the one named cosmetic confirmed so far, the Mahkten Armor Set, was revealed via its own dedicated trailer. See The Church Hub page for the full picture.
What languages does Crimson Moon support?
Full audio in English, plus text-only interface and subtitles in French, Italian, German, Latin American Spanish, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese and Simplified Chinese, according to the Steam storefront listing. No other language localization, including Korean, Russian or Thai, has been officially confirmed as of this page's last check.
What are the PC system requirements?
Minimum specs call for Windows 11, an Intel i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB of RAM, a GTX 1070 or RX 5700, DirectX 12 and 50GB of storage. Recommended specs raise that to an i7-10700K or Ryzen 5 5600X, 32GB of RAM, and an RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT. There is no VR support. Full table on the Release & Platforms page.
What is Crimson Moon's age rating?
DEJUS in Brazil, Steam's own German rating and IGRS in Indonesia all rate it 18+ for extreme or graphic violence, matching Steam's content-descriptor notes about "visceral, stylish, bloody executions." The PlayStation Store currently lists its ESRB rating as pending rather than assigning a specific tier.
Has anyone actually played Crimson Moon yet?
Yes — press outlet Insider Gaming attended a closed-door demo at GDC 2026 with live combat and exploration inside Gildenarch, and interviewed Game Director David Lesperance, Art Director Oliver Regueiro, Narrative Designer Kyle Lesperance and Gameplay Programmer Brendan Simard about the game's Dungeons & Dragons and heavy-metal inspirations. That hands-on coverage is the source for most of the mechanical detail across this wiki beyond Steam and PlayStation's own listings.
Who composed the boss music?
Metal and rock musicians HEALTH, Jared Dines, Misha Mansoor and Ricky Armellino are each contributing original boss battle tracks, announced alongside the August 2026 pricing and release-date reveal. It's an unusually specific soundtrack credit for a pre-release game, and it lines up with the heavy-metal influences the development team described in their GDC 2026 interview.
Where can I get official support?
Official player support runs through a Zendesk help center at probablymonsters.zendesk.com and the playersupport@probablymonsters.com email address, both listed directly on the Steam store page. This wiki is an independent fan project and cannot process account, billing or refund issues — see our Contact page for what we can help with instead.
Where can I follow official updates?
Crimson Moon's Steam store page lists an official website, Discord, YouTube, X, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok as its community and social channels. The official campaign site at probablymonsters.com/crimsonmoon renders client-side, so we link to the Steam listing throughout this wiki as the most reliably crawlable first-party source.
