Crimson Moon Church Hub & Progression Guide

What the sanctuary hub does between missions, and the cosmetic progression confirmed so far — the Mahkten Armor Set, revealed through its own official trailer, and the Deluxe Edition's Ceremonial Armor Set and Axe of the Gods weapon cosmetic. Everything below is sourced from official Steam feature copy, an official YouTube trailer, and the August 2026 pricing announcement, not fan speculation, and it will keep expanding as ProbablyMonsters reveals more about the hub ahead of launch.

The Church

Between missions, players return to "The Church" — a sanctuary hub confirmed via official Steam feature copy as the place for upgrades, NPC interactions and War Table planning. An official YouTube trailer additionally names this same space the "Sanctus Clypeus" hub, a Latin-styled name (roughly "holy shield") that suggests the space carries an in-fiction religious identity alongside its plain-English "Church" description, in keeping with the game's Gothic High Renaissance framing covered on the Story & Setting page.

The hub sits at the center of the district-by-district reclamation of Gildenarch described in the game's announcement material: as the Order of the Crimson Moon retakes ground from the Infernal Legion, the Church functions as the fixed home base you return to rather than a location that moves or changes with the map.

Because the Church is confirmed to sit outside the mission runs themselves, it is also the space where the game can safely show story and character beats without interrupting combat pacing — a common structural pattern for mission-based action RPGs, and one that lines up with the War Table planning described below being framed as its own deliberate activity rather than a quick pre-mission menu.

War Table Planning

The Church hosts NPC interactions and upgrades, and — per the same official trailer — War Table planning, implying players choose or configure upcoming missions from this hub rather than a simple level-select list. That would line up with the evolving mission board described in GDC 2026 hands-on preview coverage of the missions system, which frames run selection as reacting to a changing state rather than picking from a static menu.

No specific NPCs, vendor names, or upgrade categories beyond "upgrades" in the official feature copy have been named publicly yet. This page will be expanded with NPC names and War Table mechanics once ProbablyMonsters shares more detail ahead of the September 1, 2026 launch.

The name "War Table" itself implies a strategic, campaign-level view rather than a single mission-select button — consistent with the district-by-district reclamation framing on the Story & Setting page, where progress against the Infernal Legion is described as territorial rather than a simple linear level order.

The Mahkten Armor Set

One confirmed named cosmetic is the Mahkten Armor Set, revealed via its own dedicated official trailer on the ProbablyMonsters YouTube channel — the only piece of collectible gear given a proper name outside of the Deluxe Edition bundle described below. Getting a full trailer to itself suggests the Mahkten set is a meaningful, visible reward rather than a minor cosmetic variant, though its exact acquisition method (mission reward, War Table purchase, or achievement unlock) has not been confirmed.

The Mahkten Armor Set connects to the two base loadout options described in GDC 2026 hands-on coverage of the combat system: loadouts expand as you collect armor sets and weapons over a run, and Mahkten is the first of those collectible sets to be named and shown publicly.

"Mahkten" is not an English word and hasn't been defined in any official material checked for this page — it may be an in-fiction proper noun tied to a specific order, region, or fallen figure within Gildenarch, similar to how "Sanctus Clypeus" carries its own Latin-styled in-fiction weight. This page will update if ProbablyMonsters explains the name's origin.

Deluxe Edition Cosmetics

Separately from anything earned in-game, the $29.99 Deluxe Edition bundles a Ceremonial Armor Set and the Axe of the Gods weapon cosmetic, plus access to a future expansion, according to the August 2026 pricing and release-date wire release. Full pricing and edition comparison detail, including how the Deluxe Edition compares to the $19.99 Standard Edition, is on the Release & Platforms page.

Together, the Mahkten Armor Set and the Deluxe Edition's Ceremonial Armor Set and Axe of the Gods are the only three named cosmetics confirmed for Crimson Moon at time of writing — there is no revealed cosmetic shop, battle pass, or seasonal content structure beyond these three items and the "future expansion access" the Deluxe Edition unlocks.

The Deluxe Edition's "access to a future expansion" line is worth noting on its own: it is the first confirmed sign that ProbablyMonsters is already planning post-launch content, even though no expansion name, release window, or scope has been announced. Full pricing context for both editions is on the Release & Platforms page.

Progression Beyond Cosmetics

Outside of armor and weapon cosmetics, the confirmed progression loop is the loadout-expansion system covered on the Combat & Powers page: two base loadouts that grow as you collect gear, combined with the dynamic difficulty scaling detailed on the Missions, Difficulty & Co-Op page, where harder settings pay out more. No skill tree, ability list, or numbered gear-rarity system has been published for this page yet.

The Church's role as a fixed home base also ties into the boss-battle soundtrack: metal and rock musicians HEALTH, Jared Dines, Misha Mansoor and Ricky Armellino are each contributing original boss music, and returning to the Church between those fights is the moment-to-moment rhythm the game's own marketing keeps coming back to across its trailers.

This rhythm — mission, Dead God fight, return to the Church, plan at the War Table, repeat — is the clearest structural throughline across everything ProbablyMonsters has shown so far, even without a full skill tree or itemized gear list to describe. It mirrors the mission-run structure detailed on the Missions, Difficulty & Co-Op page, just viewed from the hub side of that same loop.
